Okechukwu’s areas of specialization are Corporate Finance, Secured Transactions, Fintech, Employment and Labour Relations, commercial transactions and Personal Injury. He has advised on major transactions in the telecommunications industry including the acquisition of the Nigerian subsidiary of a mobile technology company by the world’s largest software company. He also advises the same company in the firm’s capacity as Company Secretaries in various complex matters ranging from regulatory and compliance issues in Nigeria to dispute resolution in and outside of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria. He also represents all the tier-1 banks as well as the industry regulators in major litigations.
He was a team leader in a team of lawyers from the firm’s litigation group, who, in 2016, successfully filed and obtained judgments numbering over 2500 from six courts of the Federal High Court for the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), a feat in the history of litigation in Nigeria.
As a result of his extensive research in the financial technology space, he served as a member of the Securities and Exchange Commission Committee on Blockchain and Virtual Financial Assets Framework. He provides legal consultancy to several private and public organizations, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation. He also consulted for the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria and the House of Representatives Committee on Banking and Currency in the enactments of the 2015 and 2019 amendments to the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria Act, 2010.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Benin and is a regular speaker and resource-person at various workshops organised by government parastatals involved in banking and Finance in Nigeria.
